How to choose the best mattress for you
Mattress buyers guide
Did you know, the average person spends a third of their life sleeping. So finding a good mattress is an important decision. Choosing the perfect mattress can be confusing though as there are so many mattresses out there. We hope this guide makes choosing the right one for you a little easier. Here are some things to consider when buying your new mattress.
The smallest size we offer is single, which is great for one child or one adult. The largest we offer is a super king, which allows you and your partner to really spread out.
More or less support
Pocket sprung mattresses are a very popular choice and provide great support. The interconnected coils covered with fabric reduce the ripple effect when one person moves to another. We have a range of pocket sprung mattresses available here.
Some people prefer the cosy cushioning of a softer mattress whereas others prefer a firmer mattress with more tension. Look out for the different tension levels on the mattresses so you are getting the right one for you.
There are a range of different fabrics to choose from for your mattress. This is particularly important to consider if you have any allergies. Some of our mattresses are also made with recyclable materials and are more environmentally friendly if this is something that is important to you.
The type of fabric can also affect how warm the mattress will keep you, so if you are someone who gets hot at night you may want to opt for a lighter weight mattress.
When to replace your mattress
Mattresses last on average 5- 10 years. You should however keep an eye out for other warning signs with your mattress. If you are waking up sore or struggling to get comfortable at night it might be worth investing in a new mattress. Do you sleep better on other mattresses, like at a hotel? These are all signs that it’s time to replace your mattress. Remember to check the guarantee period as well when purchasing.
Caring for your mattress
Here are a few simple tips to keep your mattress in great condition for years.
Leave it uncovered for a few hours to air
When you remove your new mattress from its packaging, leave it uncovered for a few hours to allow it to air. This will help to keep your mattress smelling fresh before you put the bedding on.
Allow time for your body to adjust
Changing your mattress can be a big change for your body as it will have gotten used to the position your older mattress would have put your in. Please allow a bit of time for your body to adjust to the new level of comfort and support.
Cleaning your mattress
In general you will not need to clean your mattress but if you do make sure you don’t use any detergents or chemicals as this may damage the fabric. You can use a damp cloth with water for any light cleaning.
Rotate your mattress regularly
It’s good to rotate your mattress on a regular basis to keep it level. Some mattresses are designed not to be rotated so make sure you read the label first.
